Meet The Storyteller
I’m Lucy, the writer behind From The Fables. I came to old stories through a life shaped by chronic illness, grief, reinvention, and the strange persistence of hope. What began as a way of making sense of difficult days became a place to gather the stories that still seem to know us—sometimes better than we know ourselves.
I’ve lived long enough to know that life rarely unfolds in a tidy straight line. Bodies change. Families change. Plans change. Sometimes the person we thought we were going to be quietly disappears, and we have to get acquainted with the person who is still standing there.
That is part of why I love old fables, folklore, and myths. They are compact little containers for very old human problems: pride, fear, grief, belonging, stubbornness, loss, resilience, and the occasional spectacularly bad decision. The scenery may be ancient, but the people are surprisingly familiar.
From The Fables is where I take those old stories and ask what they still have to say about modern life—especially life in a changing body, life after loss, and the strange business of becoming someone new without quite meaning to.
I’m not interested in pretending every hard thing contains a lesson or that suffering automatically makes us wiser. Sometimes a difficult day is simply a difficult day. But stories can help us recognize ourselves, laugh at ourselves, and occasionally see a situation from a slightly different angle. That is what I hope you find here: recognition, a little company, some useful perspective, and now and then a reason to smile at the absurdity of being human.
